"NBA's G League Ignite Team to Disband After Current Season"

The NBA is shutting down the G League Ignite team after this season, citing the changing landscape of youth and collegiate basketball with the rise of name, image and likeness (NIL) and the transfer portal in college basketball. The team, which was launched in 2020 to provide a path for pre-draft eligible players to be compensated to play before entering the draft, has produced more than 10 draft selections, including four top-10 picks. The decision comes after the league's reassessment of the team's future, with NBA Commissioner Adam Silver focusing on earlier development of players.
