Mets cut ties with struggling Darin Ruf.

The New York Mets have designated Darin Ruf for assignment after a disastrous run with the team, opting for Tim Locastro's speed off the bench instead. The Mets owe Ruf $3.25 million and have until Monday to trade him and try to offset some of that money. Ruf hit just .152 without a homer in 74 plate appearances for the Mets and was a growing target of fan derision. Locastro will make the team and the righty DH at-bats likely will be moved around several players.
