Jim McElwain Retires After 40-Year Coaching Career, Joins CMU Athletics

Jim McElwain, head football coach at Central Michigan University, has announced his retirement after a four-decade coaching career, effective at the end of the 2024 season. McElwain, who led the Chippewas to significant achievements including two bowl appearances and two MAC West Division titles, will transition to a role as Special Assistant to the Athletic Director. His career highlights include successful tenures at the University of Florida and Colorado State University, as well as serving as offensive coordinator at Alabama during two national championship seasons.
