Jets Shake Up Quarterback Position, Sign Brett Rypien and Release Tim Boyle

The New York Jets have signed quarterback Brett Rypien and released Tim Boyle. They have also added offensive lineman Xavier Newman to the practice squad and placed defensive lineman Tanzel Smart on the practice squad injured reserve. Rypien, who previously played for the Rams and Seahawks, has a career completion rate of 58.3% with 4 touchdowns and 9 interceptions. Boyle, who started the past two games for the Jets, completed 62.3% of his passes with 1 touchdown and 4 interceptions. Newman returns to the Jets after being released and Smart has been placed on injured reserve.
