Capitals ship Dowd to Vegas for Vikman and draft picks

The Washington Capitals traded veteran center Nic Dowd to the Vegas Golden Knights for goaltender Jesper Vikman and two draft picks: a 2027 third-round pick and a 2029 second-round pick. Vikman, a 23-year-old Swedish depth goalie, has spent this season in the AHL with Henderson (18 games, 8-7-3, 3.41 GAA, .866 SV%) and will report to Hershey. Dowd, 35, had 16 points in 55 games this season and eight seasons with Washington, signing a two-year, $6 million extension last April; his departure opens a permanent center spot for rookie Justin Sourdif as Vegas moves to shore up its bottom six, aided by placing Mark Stone on IR to free a roster slot. The Capitals and Knights meet on March 28 in Vegas.
