Arrest Made in Theft and Destruction of Jackie Robinson Statue in Wichita

Wichita police have made an arrest in the case of the stolen and destroyed Jackie Robinson statue, charging Ricky Alderete with felony theft and other offenses. The theft, which occurred at McAdams Park, home of the youth baseball league League 42, was not believed to be hate-motivated but rather for financial gain. Surveillance footage showed a brown pickup truck involved in the vandalism, and pieces of the statue were found burnt in a park. Over $145,000 in donations have poured in to aid in rebuilding the statue, and a replica will be made using the original mold.
