Indiana QB Alberto Mendoza enters transfer portal after national championship win

Indiana backup quarterback Alberto Mendoza, the younger brother of Heisman winner Fernando Mendoza, entered the transfer portal hours after Indiana won the national championship. A redshirt freshman with three years of eligibility, he appeared in nine games in 2025 mainly in garbage time after backing up Fernando, and previously backed up Kurtis Rourke in 2024. With Josh Hoover already committed to Indiana from the portal, Mendoza will seek a starting opportunity elsewhere, having completed 19 of 25 passes for 292 yards with five touchdowns and one interception and rushing 190 yards with a rushing TD across two seasons.
