Tragic Losses: Two Firefighters Killed in Gold Coast High-Rise Blaze

A Chicago firefighter died and three others were injured while responding to a high-rise building fire on Lake Shore Drive. Two civilians were also injured. The fire was confined to one large apartment on the 27th floor, which did not have sprinklers. The firefighter who died was identified as 55-year-old Lieutenant Jan Tchoryk. He collapsed on the 27th floor while leading a crew and died later in the hospital. This is the second firefighter death in two days in Chicago.
