"Unexploded WWII Bomb Discovered on Santa Cruz County Shoreline"

A WWII-era U.S. Navy practice bomb was discovered on a Santa Cruz beach after powerful storms hit the California coast. The Santa Cruz County Sheriff bomb team deemed the bomb inert and safe, and it was removed by personnel from Travis Air Force Base. The discovery is rare in the U.S., where such wartime artifacts are less commonly found compared to European and Asian countries. The practice of ocean disposal of munitions was banned in 1972 to prevent such hazards.
