DACA Deemed Illegal Once More by Federal Judge

A federal judge in Texas has once again ruled that the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, which protects young undocumented immigrants from deportation and allows them to work legally, is illegal. The judge maintained that President Barack Obama exceeded his authority when he created DACA through executive action in 2012. While the ruling is a setback for DACA recipients, the judge did not order an immediate end to the program, allowing current applicants to keep and renew their protection. However, no new applications will be accepted. The Biden administration is expected to appeal the decision, and the case may ultimately reach the Supreme Court.
