Kennedy Expressway construction causes traffic chaos in Chicago.

Traffic congestion began on the first day of a three-year rehab of the Kennedy Expressway in Chicago, with lane closures expected to progress as setup for the project continues. The $150 million project will include rehabbing 36 bridges and the highway’s reversible express-lane access system, replacing overhead signs, upgrading lighting, paving and painting. The Illinois Department of Transportation recommends drivers adjust their travel times or take public transit instead. Metra is planning to add weekday trains to its Union Pacific Northwest Line to accommodate commuters affected by the construction.
