I-195 West at Washington Bridge to be Closed by RIDOT

The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) has closed the westbound side of the Washington Bridge due to critical failure of some original bridge components from the 1960s. The closure will cause major disruptions, with drivers being detoured onto Broadway in East Providence and having to use alternate routes. Depending on the severity of the repairs needed, the closure could last for three months or more. Additionally, two lanes of I-195 East near Exit 1A will be closed for approximately two weeks, further impacting traffic.
