Tragedy Strikes as Firefighter Loses Life in Gold Coast High-Rise Blaze.

A veteran firefighter, Lt. Jan Tchoryk, has died and three others were injured in an extra-alarm blaze at a high-rise building in Chicago's Gold Coast neighborhood. This marks the second firefighter to die in two days during a blaze. The cause of Tchoryk's death is not yet known. The building, which did not have sprinklers, was confined to one large apartment on the 27th floor. The high-rise was cited last year for allowing bushes and shrubbery to obstruct an exterior firehose connection.
