Iowa high school principal Dan Marburger, who shielded students during a mass shooting on 4 January, has died from the injuries he sustained. The shooter, a 17-year-old student, also died by suicide after opening fire in the school cafeteria, killing an 11-year-old student and injuring six others. Marburger's selfless actions were praised by the Department of Public Safety, and Governor Kim Reynolds has ordered flags in Iowa to be lowered to half-staff in his honor. The shooter, identified as Dylan Butler, had been reportedly bullied for years, and authorities found an improvised explosive device in addition to firearms.
