A poker player, Rob Mercer, has apologized for lying about having terminal cancer to raise funds for the World Series of Poker Main Event. Mercer created a GoFundMe campaign and reportedly earned between $30,000 and $50,000, allowing him to enter the tournament. However, suspicions arose within the poker community due to his vague responses about his illness and lack of concrete proof. Mercer eventually admitted to fabricating the colon cancer diagnosis but claimed to believe he has undiagnosed breast cancer. He has no plans to return the money obtained through the campaign and has quit playing poker due to his "deteriorating health."
