Southern States Grapple with Devastating Flood Emergencies

Life-threatening flash flooding has led to evacuations and water rescues across parts of the South, particularly in western Kentucky and Tennessee. Multiple flash flood emergencies have been issued, with forecasters describing the situation as "particularly dangerous." The heavy rainfall, caused by training storms, has overwhelmed drainage systems and caused rapid flooding. More rainfall is expected, worsening the already active flooding. Areas in southeastern Missouri to northern Alabama are at a moderate risk for excessive rainfall. In Oneonta, Alabama, roads were dangerously flooded, and four people had to be rescued after attempting to drive through flooded roadways.
