"US Marine Corps Pilot Identified in Fatal San Diego Combat Jet Crash"

Maj Andrew Mettler, a Marine Corps pilot, was killed when his F/A-18D Hornet crashed during a training flight near Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in San Diego. He was the only person on board, and his body has been recovered. The crash is currently under investigation. Maj Mettler, known as "Simple Jack," was a skilled pilot and leader in his squadron. The crash site is located on government property east of the air station.
