Marine Corps pilot identified in fatal jet crash near San Diego base

Maj. Andrew Mettler, a Marine Corps pilot, was killed when his F/A-18D Hornet crashed during a training flight near Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in San Diego. Mettler, known as "Simple Jack," was a skilled pilot and leader in his squadron. The crash remains under investigation, and his body was recovered at the crash site.
