Massive Redwood City Fire Forces Evacuations and Destroys Buildings

A massive eight-alarm fire at a building under construction in Redwood City prompted evacuations and an air quality advisory. No injuries were reported, but hundreds of individuals were evacuated, and several evacuation centers were set up. The fire, which started on the fifth floor, quickly spread due to wind. The building was intended to be an affordable housing structure, and its destruction is considered a setback for the community. Caltrain service in the area was also suspended.
