Firefighter Mike Altman Dies Following Rogers Park Fire

Chicago firefighter Mike Altman, 32, died from burn injuries suffered while searching a Rogers Park apartment building after a Monday blaze at 1757 W. North Shore Ave. He fell into a burning basement room and sustained burns to about 90% of his body, dying on Tuesday after being treated at Stroger Hospital. Altman, a fourth-generation CFD member with Truck 47, was among 100+ responders. The cause is under investigation. Altman is the first CFD firefighter fatality this year, and a fundraiser has raised over $155,000 for his family.
