Carjacking suspect dead as SJPD sergeant hospitalized after multi-county chase

A San Jose carjacking suspect died after a multi-county pursuit that began with the carjacking of a green Corvette in San Jose, led to Hollister where the suspect abandoned the vehicle with a firearm, then to Santa Clara County, and included a downtown shootout with San Jose police. A San Jose Police Department sergeant was shot and transported to the hospital in stable but critical condition. CHP closed Highway 87 at Julian Street during the incident, with no reopening time announced.
