Tragic Deaths of St. Johns County Deputies in Florida

An honor guard escorted the body of St. Johns County Sergeant Michael Kunovich, who died in the line of duty, from the medical examiner's office to be prepared for his funeral. Kunovich collapsed after helping detain a man who violently resisted being arrested. Fellow law enforcement officers gathered to pay their respects as his body left the hospital and the medical examiner's office. Local agencies are expected to attend his funeral and show support for his family. The suspect, Vergilio Aguilar Mendez, has been charged with resisting with violence and felony murder and is currently being held without bond.
