Paul Coderre, the former acting fire chief of New Bedford, Massachusetts, was shot and killed after he fired at police outside Bayside Lounge in Fairhaven, injuring an Acushnet officer. The incident occurred when police responded to a report of an intoxicated man. Coderre, who was fired for dishonesty related to alleged work injuries, engaged with police, who initially tried to use a Taser. After Coderre opened fire, police shot back, resulting in his death. The injured officer has been treated and released from the hospital.
