Former New Bedford interim fire chief Paul Coderre was killed by police in Fairhaven after he opened fire on officers, resulting in an Acushnet police officer being wounded. The incident occurred following an altercation at the Bayside Lounge, where Coderre was reported to be intoxicated. Despite attempts to deescalate, including the use of a Taser, Coderre shot at the police, who then returned fire, leading to his death. The injured officer was treated and released from the hospital.
