"Former Honduran President Hernández Convicted of Drug Trafficking"

Former President of Honduras Juan Orlando Hernández has been convicted in a New York Federal District Court on charges related to drug trafficking and weapons possession, including conspiring to import cocaine into the United States and to use machine guns and "destructive devices." Hernández, who was once praised by former President Donald Trump for his efforts in combating drug trafficking, was arrested in February 2022 and has been found guilty in a trial that involved testimony from convicted drug dealers. The Justice Department described Hernández as being at the center of a large and violent drug-trafficking conspiracy, while the DEA Administrator stated that he worked "hand-in-hand" with the leader of Mexico's Sinaloa cartel to send drugs into American communities.
