Texas Appeals Court Halts Investigations of Parents of Transgender Minors

A Texas appeals court upheld a lower court’s injunction blocking the state from investigating parents who provide their transgender children with gender-affirming medical treatments, delivering a victory to LGBTQ groups, medical professionals, and civil liberties advocates. The injunction came after Gov. Greg Abbott ordered child abuse investigations into families whose children were receiving puberty-blocking treatments, which was challenged by the ACLU and Lambda Legal on behalf of a 16-year-old transgender girl's family. Texas currently bars young transgender people from receiving certain puberty-blockers and hormone therapies.
