"Trial Begins for Texas School's Punishment of Black Student with Locs"

A Texas judge has ordered a trial to determine whether a Black high school student, Darryl George, can continue being punished by his district for refusing to change his hairstyle, which he and his family argue is protected by the new state law. The district's dress code restrictions on boys' hair length are being challenged under the CROWN Act, which prohibits race-based hair discrimination. George's family has also filed a formal complaint with the Texas Education Agency and a federal civil rights lawsuit against the school district, Gov. Greg Abbott, and Attorney General Ken Paxton, alleging failure to enforce the CROWN Act.
