"Michigan State Trooper Killed in I-75 Crash During Traffic Stop"

Michigan State Police identified Trooper Joel Popp, 39, as the officer killed in the line of duty after being struck by a car during a traffic stop in Saginaw County. Popp, who had been with the MSP Tri-City Post since January 2020, was hit by another vehicle while conducting a traffic stop for a suspected impaired driver on northbound I-75 near Birch Run. He later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. The other driver, an 81-year-old man, sustained serious injuries but is expected to survive.
