Parkland School Shooting Trial Judge Elizabeth Scherer Resigns from Bench

Judge Elizabeth Scherer, who presided over the trial of the Parkland school shooter, has resigned from her position in Broward County. Her resignation will take effect on June 30, and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is expected to select her replacement. Scherer had been re-elected without opposition in 2020 to a six-year term. She gained fame during the sentencing trial of the gunman in the 2018 mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.
