Nurses at Ascension hospitals stage largest strike in Texas and Kansas

Nurses at Ascension Via Christi St. Francis and St. Joseph in Wichita have gone on strike, demanding safe staffing and better working conditions. The nurses claim that long hours and short staffing have led to unsafe conditions. Ascension Via Christi expressed disappointment in the strike but assured patients that they have a contingency plan in place to ensure uninterrupted care. The hospital has contracted with a staffing agency to provide replacement nurses during the strike. Negotiations for a fair and reasonable collective bargaining agreement are ongoing.
