"US Soldier Faces Trial in Russia for Threatening Girlfriend"

U.S. Army staff sergeant Gordon Black, stationed in South Korea, is on trial in Vladivostok, Russia, for allegedly stealing from and threatening to kill his Russian girlfriend. Black, who was detained on May 2, pleaded guilty to theft but has yet to enter a plea for the threat charges. The Pentagon noted he violated army rules by traveling to Russia without authorization. His estranged wife and mother described his relationship with the Russian woman as tumultuous and sometimes violent.
