US Delegation and Congress Members Make Unprecedented Visit to Rebel-Held Northwest Syria

A high-level US delegation, including three members of Congress, made a rare visit to rebel-held territory in northwestern Syria to draw attention to the ongoing humanitarian crisis. The delegation met with orphaned children, internally displaced Syrians, opposition figures, and aid workers. This marks the first such visit since 2017 and comes after the US imposed sanctions on leaders of the Syrian National Army in northwestern Syria. The visit aligns with US military developments in the region and aims to assess the living situation and promote de-escalation between the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces and the Turkey-backed Syrian National Army.
