"Michigan Family's Harrowing Escape from Gaza Amid Israel-Hamas Conflict"

A Michigan couple, Zakaria and Laila Alarayshi, who were visiting family in Gaza when violence erupted between Israel and Hamas, have finally returned home after being trapped in Gaza for weeks. The couple pleaded for help from the U.S. government but received no assistance. They filed a lawsuit against the State and Defense departments, alleging discrimination and failure to evacuate them and other Palestinian Americans. With the help of U.S. Rep. Rashida Tlaib, the Alarayshis managed to flee to Egypt and make their way back home. However, their son, daughter, and grandchildren remain in Gaza. The Arab American Civil Rights League is urging the U.S. secretaries of state and defense to do more to evacuate Americans from Gaza.
