H-1B Visa Renewal Made Easier for NRIs in the US

The US State Department has released details of a pilot program for H-1B visa renewals, allowing a limited number of specialty occupation workers to apply for visa renewal in the US. The program will accept applications from January 29 to April 1, 2024, with an initial limit of 20,000 participants. Eligible workers must have received their visas in India or Canada within specific date ranges. Dependent H-4 visa holders are not currently eligible. The program aims to reduce workloads on consular offices abroad and provide certainty for workers and their companies. The option for domestic visa renewal is expected to eventually alleviate wait times for all appointments and remove barriers to business travel for temporary visa holders.
