Federal Judge Reiterates Unlawfulness of DACA Immigration Program

A federal judge in Texas has ruled that the Obama-era DACA program is unlawful, dealing a blow to the Biden administration. The judge argued that the rule preserving the program violated the Administrative Procedure Act. However, the ruling does not impact current beneficiaries of the program. The judge emphasized that the solution lies with Congress, urging them to provide protections for DACA recipients. There are currently 578,680 immigrants enrolled in DACA. Efforts to achieve a bipartisan compromise on the issue have been challenging.
