Federal Judge Halts Biden Administration's Asylum Policy

A federal judge has blocked the Biden administration's new asylum policy, which aimed to sharply limit who is allowed to apply for asylum in the United States. The rule, in effect since May 12, disqualified most people from applying for asylum if they crossed into the US without securing an appointment at an official port of entry or proving they sought legal protection in another country along the way. Immigrant advocacy groups sued, arguing that the policy violated US law and increased migrants' vulnerability to violence. The judge stayed his order for 14 days to allow the administration to file an appeal.
