Miraculous Escape: Chocolate Factory Worker Survives Fiery Explosion in Pennsylvania

Patricia Borges, a worker at the R.M. Palmer chocolate factory in Pennsylvania, survived a massive explosion that killed seven and injured more. She fell into a vat of liquid chocolate, which extinguished the fire on her arm and saved her life. However, the fall broke her collar bone and heels, leaving her helpless for approximately nine hours. Borges clung to a floating piece of plastic pipe and waited for help. She was eventually rescued and taken to safety. Borges and others had complained about a gas odor before the explosion and she is angry that the deaths of her co-workers could have been prevented.
