"Discovery of Unmarked Graves in Former Black Cemetery at Florida Air Force Base Prompts Expanded Search"

Military officials at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida, have located 121 possible graves from a former Black cemetery on the base grounds, dating back to between 1840 and 1920. The search, prompted by archival evidence and city records, utilized ground penetrating radar and cadaver dogs, leading to the discovery of 63 possible graves and 58 probable graves. The base plans to continue the search, allocating funds through 2025, after finding that the cemetery was larger than initially thought and was part of the forgotten or redeveloped African American cemeteries in the area.
