Golden Retrievers Gather to Honor Late Boston Marathon Dog, Spencer

Dozens of golden retrievers gathered on Boston Common to honor Spencer, the Boston Marathon's official race dog who died of cancer in February. Spencer had been one of the race's most beloved unofficial cheerleaders, encouraging runners and holding a "Boston Strong" banner. The event, hosted by MA Golden Meetups, was meant to honor the life of Spencer, his sister Penny, and all dogs who lost their lives to cancer. Spencer's owner, Rich Powers, was overwhelmed by the gesture and the outpouring of support.
