From Gun Shop to Lifesaver: How a Veteran's Act of Kindness Transformed a Struggling Soldier's Life

Caleb Morse, a veteran and owner of Rustic Renegade gun shop in Lafayette, Louisiana, started storing firearms for struggling soldiers to prevent suicides. After a friend left his guns at the shop, Morse decided to hold onto them in case his friend returned. This led to other veterans dropping off their firearms, prompting Morse to set up a system for temporary storage. The initiative aligns with The Armory Project, which aims to create time and distance between individuals in crisis and loaded firearms. Off-site storage for firearms is seen as an effective way to prevent suicide, as firearms are the most lethal method. Morse's program has stored around 100 guns and he has installed outside storage lockers in his shop to help veterans in need.
