Texas Education Agency Takes Over Houston ISD Despite Student Protests and Superintendent Support.

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) will temporarily take over the Houston Independent School District (HISD) due to reported failures on the district level and multiple schools that have faced unsatisfactory grades for several years. The move comes after years of what the state considers dysfunction and a failure to properly educate all children. The TEA will appoint a nine-member board of managers by June 1, who will have the powers and duties of the elected HISD board of trustees. The goal is to turn HISD back over to the board of trustees as soon as possible, but also recognize that change takes time.
