"Michigan School Districts Implement Backpack Ban After Multiple Gun Incidents"

A Michigan school district has banned backpacks after confiscating a loaded handgun from an 8-year-old student's backpack, the fourth time a student has brought a gun to school this academic year. The policy will remain in effect "until further notice." Three of the four incidents involved elementary school students. The district is enhancing its security protocol and cameras and investing in secured entryways. The Grand Rapids police chief anticipates criminal charges in the incidents but not against the children. Grand Rapids Mayor Rosalyn Bliss called on parents to keep guns out of the hands of children.
