LAUSD Strike: Impending Walkout and Legal Battles Loom as Negotiations Continue.

The Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) has lost a legal challenge to stop a three-day strike by the Service Employees International Local 99 Union, which represents roughly 30,000 cafeteria workers, bus drivers, custodians, special education assistants, and other workers. The union is protesting the district's unfair practices, and many of its members are part-time employees seeking full-time jobs. The LAUSD says it is prepared for school closures but remains hopeful a resolution can be reached before the strike's Tuesday deadline. The district has made one of the strongest offers ever proposed by a Los Angeles Unified superintendent, including a 5% wage increase retroactive to July 2021, another 5% increase retroactive to July 2022, and another 5% increase effective July 2023, along with a 4% bonus in 2022-23 and a 5% bonus in 2023-24.
