Florida universities receive millions in funding boost from DeSantis-backed budget.

Florida lawmakers have approved more than $34 million in funding for New College of Florida, a school that Governor Ron DeSantis is seeking to transform into a conservative-leaning institution. The money will be used for scholarships, building repairs, and school operations. DeSantis appointed six new trustees to reshape the school as a “Hillsdale of the South,” a reference to the conservative Christian college in Michigan. The trustees have already made a noticeable impact on the Sarasota campus, dismantling diversity, equity, and inclusion programs, denying tenure to faculty members, and firing the school’s librarian.
