Members of the Brockton School Committee in Massachusetts have requested the deployment of National Guard troops to address escalating violence, substance abuse, and security concerns at Brockton High School, the state's largest high school with an enrollment of about 4,300 students. Teachers and administrators have reported daily brawls, drug use, and fornication in empty classrooms, with one teacher recounting being trampled by a mob of students. The situation has become so dire that many teachers fear for their safety and have resorted to calling in sick. The request has been sent to Governor Maura Healey, who has the authority to deploy the National Guard, but the mayor noted that he does not support the measure.
