Beshear Urges Action on JCPS Bus Issues Amidst School Closure Concerns

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear is reluctant to call a special session to address the transportation issues that led to school closures in Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS). Republican lawmakers had called for a special session to address the "epic failure" that caused JCPS to cancel school for six days. Beshear argues that the legislators themselves are partly to blame for underfunding public transportation, resulting in a shortage of bus drivers. While acknowledging the need for corrections, Beshear believes that special sessions require extensive preparation and cost taxpayers $600,000.
