Alabama Education Official Resigns Over 'Woke' Pre-K Training Book

The Secretary of the Alabama Department of Early Childhood Education, Barbara Cooper, has resigned after Governor Kay Ivey's administration discovered the contents of a pre-K educator resource book that was deemed "woke" and "divisive." The book, titled National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) Developmentally Appropriate Practice Book, 4th Edition, contained ideas that perpetuate systems of white privilege and structural racism, which the Ivey administration and the people of Alabama do not believe should be used to influence school children, let alone four-year-olds. Dr. Jan Hume will serve as interim secretary.
