Wisconsin Kayaker Who Faked Death Returns and Faces Charges

Ryan Borgwardt, who faked his own death in a Wisconsin lake and fled the country, has returned to the U.S. and is in custody. Borgwardt, who misled authorities to believe he drowned, voluntarily returned and faces charges of obstructing an officer. He had been in the country of Georgia and used a VPN to avoid detection. Borgwardt's actions included clearing his browser history, moving funds, and obtaining a new passport. He is due in court in January and may be required to reimburse the county for search expenses.
