Virginia man convicted of aggravated murder in au pair affair double murder

A Fairfax County, Virginia jury convicted Brendan Banfield on two counts of aggravated murder, along with a firearms offense and child endangerment, for the killings of his wife Christine Banfield and Joseph Ryan in a scheme tied to Banfield’s affair with the family’s au pair. Prosecutors say Banfield and Juliana Peres Magalhães posed as his wife online to lure Ryan to the home, where Ryan was killed and the scene staged to look like self-defense; Banfield testified he loved his wife and acted only after Ryan attacked her. The 4-year-old daughter was in the home during the killings. Banfield faces life in prison with sentencing set for May 8.
