Tragic Loss: 19-Year-Old Officer Killed in High-Speed Chase
A 20-year-old burglary suspect in Vermont is facing charges after leading police on a high-speed chase and crashing into two police cruisers, resulting in the death of a 19-year-old officer and injuries to two others. The suspect, Tate Rheaume, is charged with grossly negligent operation and attempting to elude with death resulting. Additional charges may be filed. The officer, Jessica Ebbighausen, was killed when the suspect's truck collided head-on with her cruiser. The suspect and the other injured officers were taken to the hospital, with Rheaume listed in serious but stable condition. Ebbighausen's body was escorted in a procession back to Rutland, where she served as a part-time officer since May.
